"but that was all he had, a piece of dried fish(...) That was intercision, and this was a severed child"
[Philip Pullman,"The Golden Compass"]

just a little and mostly digital illustration i did of one of the most horrifying and sad moments of Philip Pullman's "His Dark Matierials" trilogy, the moment when Lyra finds a severed child, Tony Makarios, in the fish house, (i'm not going to give too many details of the story not to spoil it for you who hasn't read it, in fact i'm afraid i already had:blushes::giggle:)

i just felt like drawing this moment of the book, plus i wanted to make some picture for newly-created Philip Pullman's fanclub hoping maybe they would like to re-submit it as the fanclub's picture:fingerscrossed:

You caught the scene exceedingly well. I especially like the grayness with just a little color.
I also LOVE the pupil-less eyes. It enhances the feeling of some sort of ghost there instead of a real boy, and makes the picture more disturbing and wrong. Which is what I imagine the scene to feel like.
Well done!

Oh my god. D: D: D:

I cried even just right now. I'm pretty sure that's the saddest part of any book EVER.

The composition and the fencing looks really nice. (That's what I noticed in the thumb)

I'm rereading it and I'm just at the part where he gets kidnapped. Nooooo, bitch. D:< D:< D:<
